I am attaching my friend Hugh and Grace Thompson's letter to Senator S. Brown concering Taiwan's endagered democracy. I wish you may shared it with TAC members.

Hugh and Grace had attended our last TAC Lunar new years party. That time they also donated $250 to Frank Hsieh's presidential campaign of Taiwan. Unfortunately Frank lost to the China minded Ma that time, henceforth Ma has seviously degraded and endangered Taiwan's democratic sytem as we are seeing today. Hugh and Grace do not have any connection with Taiwan. Their doing such act on behalf of Taiwan is purely based on their belief that to save and preserve an endangered democratic system is an universal responsibility of mankinds. As a Taiwanese American, their noble act touch my heart deeply. I thus ask Shiou-Yi to distribute and share this letter to you.

Dear Senator Brown,
As you may be aware, with the visit this Mon. Nov. 3 of Chinese negotiator
Chen Yunlin, Taiwan is facing what may be a pivotal point in its 60- year
struggle for independence. This visit may produce irreversible steps leading to
the extinguishing of democratic Taiwan as an independent, successful
democracy.
Even more pressing, Prof. T.K. Tsai of National Taiwan University is now in the
fourth day of a hunger strike aimed at simply promoting discussion within the
Legislative Yuan of a Modified Referendum Law. Such a law would give a
measure of voice to the ~85% native Taiwanese majority who are inadequately
represented by the KMT majority in the Legislative Yuan and by KMT President
Ma. The hunger strike of Prof. Tsai, outside the Legislative Yuan in Taipei,
follows the protest rally of over half a million Taiwanese on Oct. 25.
(on rally, see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7690695.stm).
As a founder of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, and one of the free world’s
leading voices in support of Taiwan, whose democracy is one of the few
success stories of modern times, we cannot urge you too strongly to use all
possible influence at this critical time in support of an autonomous Taiwan.
It is especially imparative that immediate action be taken on the hunger strike
of Prof. Tsai before it is too late for this heroic man. Additional information can
be obtained from the Formosan Association for Public Affairs, 202-547-3686.
Thank you very much for your interest and support.
Sincerely,
Hugh & Grace Thompson
